Optometrist assistant

Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Optical/Administrative Assistant to join our close-knit, family-based optometry clinic. Our patients have trusted us for over a decade, and we pride ourselves on providing personalized, compassionate care. Availability to work at least 3 days per week, including evenings and Saturdays, is required. Optical sales experience is a requirement.

Responsibilities

• Perform Pre-testing of patients, assist with frame selection/fitting, educate patients on eyewear/contact lenses and neutralize glasses (minimum 1 year experience)
• Handle front desk duties including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information and collecting payments, OHIP billings and validations, sending referrals to specialists and following up
• Respond to patient calls and emails promptly and professionally, addressing inquiries and concerns as needed.
• Manage patient flow and ensure a seamless experience from check-in to check-out.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, optical displays, and front office areas

Skills

• Experience in a healthcare or optical administrative role
• Strong organizational and computer skills, including EMR systems
• Confident, professional communication with patients and team members
• Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast-paced clinic environment
• Reliable, team-oriented, and genuinely patient-focused
