We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Optician or Optometric Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in providing exceptional patient care and support within our optometry practice. This position involves assisting with various clinical and administrative tasks to ensure a smooth and efficient operation, while also enhancing the patient experience.
The clinic will provide cross-training in both optical dispensing and optometric assistant skills to help support our current full-time staff in their roles with total of 25-30 hours per week.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients warmly and assist them with check-in and check-out processes.
- Maintain accurate electronic medical records (EMR) and ensure all patient information is up-to-date.
- Assist the optometrist during examinations by preparing patients, conducting preliminary tests, and documenting results.
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care, eyewear options, and optical products.
- Manage front desk operations including scheduling appointments, answering phone calls, and handling patient inquiries.
- Collaborate with team members to maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Delegate and perform clinic upkeep duties
- Manage frame boards and inventory selection with frame reps
- Prepare and review lens quotes
- Recommend, dispense and repair eyewear
- verification of completed eyewear jobs and troubleshoot solutions for adaptation to new eyewear
- Communicate with new and existing patients either in person or on the phone regarding questions pertaining to their eyewear and new products available
- Update price lists
Qualifications
- Previous experience in an optometry or optical office setting is required
- Familiarity with electronic medical records systems is highly desirable.
- Strong background in patient care with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Experience in front desk operations within a healthcare or retail environment is beneficial.
- Knowledge of optical products and services is an advantage.
- Understanding of medical terminology related to optometry is essential.
- Retail sales experience will be considered an asset.
